How does the page rate a password?
The page counts the kinds of characters and the length. Then it lowers the score for repeats, runs such as abc or 123, keyboard runs such as qwerty, years, common passwords and common words.
Why is the result only an estimate?
A real attacker may know more than this page. The page has a short list of common passwords. It cannot know that a person chose your password for a reason. Use the score as a guide.
What score is good?
Aim for 80 bits or more. A random password from a generator is the best choice. A password that you made from your own name, a date or a pet is weak.
Does my password go to a server?
